King Shocks are one of the premier offroad shock companies, well known globally as having superb everyday ride quality mixed with go-fast attitude and handling. Known for their high speed performance, King Shocks use the highest grade materials every step of the way through the coilover and shock building process. "Nothing rides like a King" is frequently thrown around the industry, which we can agree with.
The build doesn't stop with the coilovers and shocks, there are variations to these dampers which provide assistance with greater weight requirements, lift heights, and other suspension related needs. Along with that we've made available a range of upper control arms, and rear spring options to fully complete your system.
Front Coilovers
25001-278 / A / EXT (Old PN)
25001-133 / A / EXT (New PN)
There areĀ 2 versions of the front coilovers; standard travel and extended travel. All coilovers come standard with 550lb rates on the 4Runner, but can be upgraded toĀ 600 or 650. All versions and spring rates also come with optional adjustability.
- The standard option is preset at about 2" of lift from King out of the box, with the option to preload the spring for 2.5" of lift without too much affect on the ride quality. Preloading further to 3" will impact ride comfort and overall performance.
- The extended travel version has removed a limiting spacer in the shock to allow for about 0.5" of more down travel, as well as some additional preload if you want to push the shocks to 3.5" of lift. Going to 3-3.5" is technically allowed, but the sweet spot of travel vs comfort and performance is in the 2.5" range.
- Spring Rates start to matter in determining total lift amount required, how much preload for the springs, and vehicle weight loadout (front/rear). Heavier spring rates are usually reserved for heavier bumpers and winches, while maintaining a certain lift height. Using a heavier spring rate to achieve the max lift height will result in poor comfort and detrimental to actual performance.
Upper Control Arm Options
All available arms allow for more suspension articulation compared to stock arms on a lifted vehicle, and easier alignment, which is important when lifting the vehicle 3-3.5".Ā

Old Man Emu provides a 23.75" extended length rear shock for their 3" springs in their kits, so these King Shocks at 24.29" will work as well on their 3" rear spring applications.
- Extended Length - 24.29"
- Collapsed Length - 15.58"
- Travel - 8.71"
